Successful business owner and franchisee, survivor of a heart attack, an accomplished elite sportsman, a qualified and experienced teacher, an entrepreneur, a speaker and author as well as a father and grandfather.
Born in Mildura in Victoria, Julius relocated to Melbourne soon after with his parents and brother. Living in North Melbourne until he was 16, he developed very strong sporting interests as a child.
After his parents divorced Julius lived with his father, who was a keen sportsman. From a young age Julius enjoyed watching his father competing in many sports. In his early days Julius was very active in swimming, athletics, wrestling and football. In secondary school, the love of sport continued to be his focus, rather than academics. As the years progressed he played top level Rugby Union, Australian Rules football, basketball, swimming and athletics. Going on to study Physical Education as Monash University, he juggled his studies with serious involvement in representative Rugby Union, including representing Australia internationally playing against the New Zealand All Blacks, and the national teams of Japan, Tonga and Fiji. At age 24, Julius married and moved to Torquay where he worked as a PE teacher in nearby Geelong for 20 years.
Living near the coast fuelled a passion for surfboat rowing and he has now performed at the highest level in that sport for over 40 years, winning five national titles and one world title. In 1979, Julius became a father welcoming first a son and then two years later a daughter. After divorcing several years later he moved to the Gold Coast, working first in night club security then in recreation on an island resort.
In 2002, Julius stepped into the world of business by purchasing a Bakers Delight franchise. Within the next seven years he purchased two Blockbuster franchises. This gave him the taste for the business world and he still runs two successful businesses today. In addition to his franchise businesses, Julius has provided services to a range of organisations including Zurich Insurance, Westpac Bank, Riskkey Business Insurance, and Personal Investment Services. Julius’ life has been dominated by competitive physical activity as a means of maintaining a healthy body which has benefited him in ways he may never have imagined as he aged. This healthy body, along with a combination of other fortuitous circumstances, were to stand him in good stead on the day he suffered a massive heart attack and lived to tell the tale.
Not only did he receive a second chance at life, he seized it with both hands and turned his trauma into a life changing positive experience that he now shares globally speaking to people from all walks of life teaching the importance of health and success. Julius has travelled and worked through Europe, the UK, Asia, Pacific Islands, North America and New Zealand, as well as being an annual visitor to Bali for many years.
Julius is the author of Dead One Day – Laughing The Next. Julius has been a member of many associations, just some of which include Surf Lifesaving Australia, franchise associations for Bakers Delight, Blockbuster and Custodian Wealth Builders, as well as many fitness centres and health clubs. Julius’ other sporting passions include European handball, dragon boat racing, river rowing, triathlons, and in later years outrigger canoes. Julius lives in Queensland with his partner Helen.
